KRISTY LEMOND ENDOWED DISTINGUISHED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Shortly after Kristy passed away, an anonymous donor approached the University of Washington with a donation to create a scholarship fund in her name within the Department of Education. The purpose of this fund is "To provide undergraduate scholarships to students within the UW College of Education's undergraduate programs (Early Childhood and Family Studies Major & Education, Learning, and Society minor). The fund is in honor of Kristina "Kristy" LeMond, a 2011 UW graduate who had a strong passion for education and making a difference in the lives of children around the world."
Due mostly to the incredible efforts of an annual golf tournament fundraiser put on by Barry's childhood friends, the Scholarship has reached over $250,000! It is now the first ever community-funded Distinguished Scholarship in the College of Education! Amazing! This endowment has created an annual scholarship to deserving undergraduates each year. The annual gift amount increases as the endowment increases. There have been eight scholarship recipients thus far. This scholarship will go in perpetuity.
Recently, the University of Washington has added a webpage to the donation site which highlights Kristy and the incredible accomplishment of reaching this milestone level,
